TRUSTING(FAITH) IN CHRIST -
Hebrews 3:6 but Christ as a Son over His own house,
whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of
the hope firm to the end.
Hebrews 3:14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,
{In this verse the indication of past salvation is present reality. The converse would clearly be, "For we have NOT become
partakers of Christ if we FAIL TO hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end.}
Rom 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is
revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by
faith."
Jeremiah 17:5,7 Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD. (7) "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD.
A CHANGED LIFE -
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all
things have become new.
Ephesians 4:20-24 But you have not so learned
Christ, (21) if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him,
as the truth is in Jesus: (22) that you put off, concerning your former
conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful
lusts, (23) and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, (24) and that
you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true
righteousness and holiness.
1 John 3:10 In this the children of God and
the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice
righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the
things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father
is not in him. (16) For all that is in the world; the lust of the
flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life; is not of the
Father but is of the world. (17) And the world is passing away, and the
lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

OBEDIENCE TO GOD -
Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord,
Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of
My Father in heaven.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
John 16:8 "And when He(Holy Spirit) has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Ezekiel 36:26-27 "Moreover, I will give you a new
heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of
stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. (27) "I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.
Hebrews 12:6-11 FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." (7) If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? (8) But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. (9) Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? (10) For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. (11) Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

A LIFE OF REPENTANCE -
{Sanctification - a continual, general decrease of sin in one's life; not perfection, but a turning from sin}
Luke 5:32 "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."
Luke 24:47 and that repentance and forgiveness of
sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from
Jerusalem.
2 Corinthians 7:9-10 Now I rejoice, not that you
were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were
made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in
nothing. (10) For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.
Romans 2:4 Or do you despise the riches of His
goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness
of God leads you to repentance?
Acts 3:19 "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,
Jeremiah 32:38-40 "They shall be My people, and I
will be their God; (39) and I will give them one heart and one way,
that they may fear Me always, for their own good and for the good of
their children after them. (40) "I will make an everlasting covenant
with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts so that they will not turn away from Me.
Revelation 3:19 "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
Psalm 51:16-17 For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
{The good work wrought in every true penitent, is a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart, and sorrow for sin. It is a heart that is tender, and pliable to God's word. Oh that there were such a heart in every one of us! God is graciously pleased to accept this; it is instead of all burnt-offering and sacrifice. The broken heart is acceptable to God only through Jesus Christ; there is no true repentance without faith in him.}
Hebrews 12:6-8 For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives." (7) If you endure chastening,
God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father
does not chasten? (8) But if you are without chastening, of which all
have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.
Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful
for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the
peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
{Notice that Hebrews 12:11 is in the "present"
tense, not the past tense. Also, the phrase "to those who have been
trained by it" indicates the sanctification process, which is over a
period of time and NOT immediate.}

GROWTH IN HOLINESS -
Hebrews 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
1 John 3:3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
Philippians 1:6 being confident of this very thing,
that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day
of Jesus Christ;
Hebrews 5:12-14 For though by this time you ought to
be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles
of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid
food. (13) For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the
word of righteousness, for he is a babe. (14) But solid food belongs to
those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have
their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
{True salvation = a changed life}
THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT -
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is
love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23)
gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Ephesians 5:1-11 Therefore be imitators of God as
dear children. (2) And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and
given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a
sweet-smelling aroma. (3) But fornication and all uncleanness or
covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for
saints; (4) neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse
jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. (5) For
this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man,
who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and
God. (6) Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these
things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. (7)
Therefore do not be partakers with them. (8) For you were once
darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
(9) (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and
truth), (10) finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. (11) And have
no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose
them.
James 2:20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
{Professed faith without accompanying deeds/action = an empty profession of faith} {Your actions match what you believe}
LOVE FOR OTHER CHRISTIANS -
1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death
to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother
abides in death.
1 John 4:20-21 If someone says, "I love God," and
hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother
whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? (21) And
this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.
A POSITIVE INFLUENCE ON OTHERS -
Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
1 Peter 2:12 having your conduct honorable among the
Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by
your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of
visitation.
ADHERING TO THE APOSTOLIC TEACHING -
1 John 4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,
1 Timothy 4:6 If you instruct the brethren in these
things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the
words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully
followed.
1 Timothy 4:16 Take heed to yourself and to the
doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both
yourself and those who hear you.
THE TESTIMONY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WITHIN THEM -
Romans 8:15-16 For you did not receive the spirit of
bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom
we cry out, "Abba, Father." (16) The Spirit Himself bears witness with
our spirit that we are children of God,
1 John 5:5-6 Who is he who overcomes the world, but
he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (6) This is He who came
by water and blood; Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and
blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is
truth.
John 16:8 "And when He(Holy Spirit) has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
A HUNGER FOR GOD'S WORD & KNOWLEDGE OF GOD -
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
Psalms 42:1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.
Psalms 119:33-35 Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your
statutes, And I shall keep it to the end. (34) Give me understanding,
and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole
heart. (35) Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I
delight in it.
Psalms 119:73-74 Your hands have made me and
fashioned me; Give me understanding, that I may learn Your
commandments. (74) Those who fear You will be glad when they see me,
Because I have hoped in Your word.
Philippians 3:8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
1 Peter 2:2-3 Like newborn infants, long for the
pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation-- (3) if
indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.
2 Peter 1:3-11 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him
who called us by glory and virtue, (4) by which have been given to us
exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be
partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is
in the world through lust. (5) But also for this very reason, giving
all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
(6) to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to
perseverance godliness, (7) to godliness brotherly kindness, and to
brotherly kindness love. (8) For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
(10) Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and
election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; (11)
for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the
everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 5:12-14 For though by this time you ought to
be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles
of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid
food. (13) For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the

those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have
their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Indicators That You May Not Be Saved, But Rather Deceived
(from a SERMON by John MacArthur)
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.
Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?; unless indeed you are disqualified.
Proverbs 30:12 There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, Yet is not washed from its filthiness.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Do you not know that the
unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived.
Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,
nor sodomites, (10) nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor
revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are
evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, (20)
idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath,
selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, (21) envy, murders,
drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand,
just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such
things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
