SAVED BY GRACE, NOT BY WORKS - "What Catholics Say Is Necessary For Salvation"
Ephesians 2:8-9   For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (9) not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Mat. 5:20   For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Romans 4:1-8   What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? (2) For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. (3) For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." (4) Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
(5) But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, (6) just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works: (7) "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered; (8) Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin."
{Impute - to attribute (righteousness, guilt, etc.) to a person or persons vicariously. Christ's perfect righteousness is credited to all true believers.}

Romans 10:1-4   Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. (2) For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. (3) For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. (4) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Titus 3:5   Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Philippians 1:11  being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
{If righteousness is the tree, and good works the fruits, then the papists are truly deceived indeed, when they say that works are the cause of righteousness.}

Romans 3:23-26   for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (24) being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, (25) whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, (26) to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Romans 11:5-6   Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. (6) And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

THERE IS NO PURGATORY -
Acts 8:20   But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

Psalms 49:6-8    Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches, (7) None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him (8) For the redemption of their souls is costly, And it shall cease forever

2 Corinthians 5:5-10   Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. (6) So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. (7) For we walk by faith, not by sight. (8) We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. (9) Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. (10) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22   Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, (22) who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

Ephesians 1:13-14   In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, (14) who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

2 Corinthians 5:1   For we know that if our earthly house, [this] tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

"When the thief died on the cross, he had but just believed, and had never done a single good work. But where did he go? He ought to have gone to purgatory by rights if ever anybody did. But instead of that the Saviour said to him, "Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise" (Luke 23:43). Why? Because the ground of the man's admission into Paradise was perfect."

NO IDOLS ALLOWED -
Deuteronomy 4:15-19   "Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, (16) "lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female, (17) "the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, (18) "the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth. (19) "And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the LORD your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage.

Deuteronomy 5:8-9   ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; (9) you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

Exodus 20:4-5   "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; (5) you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

Ezekiel 8:5-6   Then He said to me, "Son of man, lift your eyes now toward the north." So I lifted my eyes toward the north, and there, north of the altar gate, was this image of jealousy in the entrance. (6) Furthermore He said to me, "Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel commits here, to make Me go far away from My sanctuary? Now turn again, you will see greater abominations."

Jeremiah 10:14-15   Everyone is dull-hearted, without knowledge; Every metalsmith is put to shame by an image; For his molded image is falsehood, And there is no breath in them. (15) They are futile, a work of errors; In the time of their punishment they shall perish.

Jeremiah 2:26-28   "As the thief is ashamed when he is found out, So is the house of Israel ashamed; They and their kings and their princes, and their priests and their prophets, (27) Saying to a tree, ‘You are my father,’ And to a stone, ‘You gave birth to me.’ For they have turned their back to Me, and not their face. But in the time of their trouble They will say, ‘Arise and save us.’ (28) But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, If they can save you in the time of your trouble; For according to the number of your cities Are your gods, O Judah.

Isaiah 2:8-9  Their land is also full of idols; They worship the work of their own hands, That which their own fingers have made. (9) People bow down, And each man humbles himself; Therefore do not forgive them.

Habakkuk 2:18    "What profit is the image, that its maker should carve it, The molded image, a teacher of lies, That the maker of its mold should trust in it, To make mute idols?

Romans 1:21-25   because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. (22) Professing to be wise, they became fools, (23) and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man; and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. (24) Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, (25) who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Galatians 4:8   But then, indeed, when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not gods.

THERE IS ONLY ONE MEDIATOR -
1Tim. 2:5   For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
[ONE mediator, not Mary and/or (5,10,15,etc.) dead saints]

Hebrews 9:14-15   how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (15) And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Belgic Confession - Article 26: The Intercession of Christ:
We believe that we have no access to God except through the one and only Mediator and Intercessor: Jesus Christ the Righteous. He therefore was made man, uniting together the divine and human natures, so that we human beings might have access to the divine Majesty. Otherwise we would have no access. But this Mediator, whom the Father has appointed between himself and us, ought not terrify us by his greatness, so that we have to look for another one, according to our fancy. For neither in heaven nor among the creatures on earth is there anyone who loves us more than Jesus Christ does. Although he was "in the form of God," he nevertheless "emptied himself," taking the form of "a man" and "a servant" for us; and he made himself "completely like his brothers." Suppose we had to find another intercessor. Who would love us more than he who gave his life for us, even though "we were his enemies"? And suppose we had to find one who has prestige and power. Who has as much of these as he who is seated "at the right hand of the Father," and who has all power "in heaven and on earth"? And who will be heard more readily than God's own dearly beloved Son?
So then, sheer unbelief has led to the practice of dishonoring the saints, instead of honoring them. That was something the saints never did nor asked for, but which in keeping with their duty, as appears from their writings, they consistently refused. We should not plead here that we are unworthy-- for it is not a question of offering our prayers on the basis of our own dignity but only on the basis of the excellence and dignity of Jesus Christ, whose righteousness is ours by faith.
Since the apostle for good reason wants us to get rid of this foolish fear-- or rather, this unbelief-- he says to us that Jesus Christ was "made like his brothers in all things," that he might be a high priest who is merciful and faithful to purify the sins of the people. For since he suffered, being tempted, he is also able to help those who are tempted. And further, to encourage us more to approach him he says, "Since we have a high priest, Jesus the Son of God, who has entered into heaven, we maintain our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to have compassion for our weaknesses, but one who was tempted in all things, just as we are, except for sin. Let us go then with confidence to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace, in order to be helped." The same apostle says that we "have liberty to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus. Let us go, then, in the assurance of faith...." Likewise, "Christ's priesthood is forever. By this he is able to save completely those who draw near to God through him who always lives to intercede for them." What more do we need? For Christ himself declares: "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to my Father but by me." Why should we seek another intercessor? Since it has pleased God to give us his Son as our Intercessor, let us not leave him for another-- or rather seek, without ever finding. For when God gave him to us he knew well that we were sinners.
Therefore, in following the command of Christ we call on the heavenly Father through Christ, our only Mediator, as we are taught by the Lord's Prayer, being assured that we shall obtain all we ask of the Father in his name.

DON'T PRAY TO SAINTS -
1Tim. 2:5   For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Isaiah 8:19-20   And when they say to you, "Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter," should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living? (20) To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Leviticus 19:31   Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.

Leviticus 20:6   'And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12   "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, (11) "or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. (12) "For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you.

Isaiah 42:8   I [am] the LORD, that [is] My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images.
[Praying to Mary and/or dead saints = idolatry]
[Praying is worship, because it's acknowledging God's sovereignty; thus giving Him glory, which is NOT to be "given to another".]
[Praying is also communication between the created being & it's creator, NOT between saints and saints.]

Zephaniah 1:4-6   "I will stretch out My hand against Judah, And against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. PRAYING TO MARY ISN'T NEEDED -
Romans 8:26-27,34   Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (27) Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
(34) Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

MARY IS NOT EVER-VIRGIN -
Mark 6:3   Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

Matthew 1:24-25   Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, (25) and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.

MARY ISN'T THE WAY TO REACH GOD -
John 14:6   Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:11-12   This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. (12) "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

MARY ISN'T VITAL -
Luke 11:27-28   And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!" (28) But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

1Tim. 2:5   For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

1 John 1:1-3   That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life; (2) the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us; (3) that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
[If Mary is so vital, (Rome proclaims that she is a co-redemptress and a dispenser of grace), then the underlined section in verse 3 is a perfect place in Scripture to express THAT. But, God's Word doesn't mention Mary at all here. This is more proof that putting your trust in Mary is nothing less than idolatry.]

POPE IS NOT INFALLIBLE -
Romans 3:23   For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Ecc. 7:20   For [there is] not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

CHURCH GOVERNMENT IS TO BE HEADED BY A NUMBER OF ELDERS
AND NOT HEADED BY ONE INDIVIDUAL (THE POPE) -

Mat 20:25-26   But Jesus called them to Himself and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. (26) "Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.

1Pe 5:2-3   shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; (3) nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.

1 Timothy 5:17   Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.

Titus 1:5   For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you;

1 Peter 5:1   The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed:
[Note that in this verse Peter views himself as a fellow elder and NOT as a Pope or as a superior]

SALVATION IS NOT ACHIEVED THROUGH THE SACRAMENTS -
Hebrews 10:11-18   And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. (12) But this Man(Christ), after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, (13) from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. (14) For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
(15) But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, (16) "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them," (17) then He adds, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more." (18) Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

Hebrews 13:15-16   Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. (16) But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Acts 16:30-31   And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" (31) So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."

EUCHARIST SHOULD BE THE SPIRITUAL PRESENCE OF CHRIST,
NOT ACTUALLY CHRIST'S FLESH & BLOOD -

John 6:56,63    "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.
(63) "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Leviticus 7:27   Whatsoever soul [it be] that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.
Acts 21:25   "But concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written and decided that they should observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality."

Leviticus 17:14   "for it is the life of all flesh. Its blood sustains its life. Therefore I said to the children of Israel, 'You shall not eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.'

1 Corinthians 11:27-29   Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. (28) But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. (29) For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

Mat 6:7   But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Ecclesiastes 5:2   Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few.

TRADITION -
Mark 7:6-9, 13   And he said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, "'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; (7) in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' (8) You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men." (9) And he said to them, "You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition!
(13) thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do."
Jeremiah 8:8-9   "How can you say, ‘We are wise, And the law of the LORD is with us’? Look, the false pen of the scribe certainly works falsehood. (9) The wise men are ashamed, They are dismayed and taken. Behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD; So what wisdom do they have?

Col 2:8   Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Colossians 2:16-23   So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, (17) which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. (18) Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, (19) and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.
(20) Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations (21) "Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle," (22) which all concern things which perish with the using according to the commandments and doctrines of men? (23) These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.

Matthew 15:3-9   He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? (4) "For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ (5) "But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, "Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God" (6) ‘then he need not honor his father or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. (7) "Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: (8) ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. (9) And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’"

2 Thessalonians 2:15   Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.
{"or" not "and" ..... Do you have one thing that comes to the Church in two ways? Or do you have two things that come to the Church?}

1 Corinthians 4:6   Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other.

Revelation 22:18-19   For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; (19) and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

2 Timothy 1:13-14   Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. (14) That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
1 Timothy 6:20-21   O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge; (21) by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith. Grace be with you. Amen.
1 Corinthians 14:36-37   Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached? (37) If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.

John 5:39   "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.
2 Timothy 3:15-17   and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (16) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (17) that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

(6) Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches, (7) None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him (8) For the redemption of their souls is costly, And it shall cease forever (9) That he should continue to live eternally, And not see the Pit.

MASS (OFFERING A SACRIFICE) -
Heb. 7:27   Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

Hebrews 9:24-28   For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; (25) not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another (26) He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. (27) And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, (28) so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

Hebrews 10:12-18   But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, (13) from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.

Hebrews 10:10   By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once [for all].

The Catholic Catechism Sec. 1368 describes the Mass (Eucharist) as "the sacrifice of Christ" blended with sacrifices made by individual Romanists. [In other words: A re-sacrifice of Jesus accompanied by human works offered sacrificially.]
The Catholic Catechism Sec. 1393 alleges that the Mass (Eucharist) has the effect of "cleansing us from past sins".
[Both of these statements deny that Christ's sacrifice on the cross was enough; they state that something else is needed to cleanse people from sins. This is definitely NOT the true biblical Christian view of Christ's finished work on the cross.]

THE CONFESSIONAL -
Mark 2:7   Why doth this [man] thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

1 John 1:9   If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 Timothy 2:5   For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

INDULGENCES ARE WRONG --
Psalms 49:5-9   Why should I fear in the days of evil, When the iniquity at my heels surrounds me? (6) Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches, (7) None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him (8) For the redemption of their souls is costly, And it shall cease forever (9) That he should continue to live eternally, And not see the Pit.
Psalms 49:15    But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, For He shall receive me. Selah

Acts 8:20   But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!

PETER WAS NOT THE 1st POPE NOR IS HE THE "ROCK" --
Ephesians 2:19-22   Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, (20) having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, (21) in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, (22) in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 10:1-4   Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, (2) all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, (3) all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

Colossians 1:18   And He [Christ] is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Psalms 18:31   For who [is] God, except the LORD? And who [is] a rock, except our God?

Psalms 62:5-7   My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. (6) He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. (7) In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God.

CELIBACY OF PRIESTS --
1 Timothy 3:2   A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;

Titus 1:5-6   For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you; (6) if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.

1 Corinthians 9:3-5   My defense to those who examine me is this: (4) Do we have no right to eat and drink? (5) Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?

1 Timothy 4:1-6   Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, (2) through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, (3) who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. (4) For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, (5) for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer. (6) If you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed.
