ETERNAL  SECURITY

Ephesians 1:13-14   (13) In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, (14) who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

The above verses (along with the verses listed below) emphatically state that God promises all true believers eternal life (NOT temporary or conditional life, but ETERNAL life). Those who disbelieve the doctrine of Eternal Security are not only attacking the sovereignty & power of God, but are also calling God a liar. The Bible teaches that God is more than capable of achieving His purposes and of keeping His promises. I hate to burst your bubble folks, but God is in control, not man. To say that God is unwilling or incapable of keeping His promises is a very dangerous position to put oneself into, indeed. Those who stand against this doctrine not only are being blaphemous toward God, but are demonstrating their state of rebellion against the power & authority of Almighty God. I pray that the verses listed in this webpage will demonstrate, to those who disbelieve it, that this doctrine of Eternal Security is, in fact, the truth.
I think one more point should be made. Those who don't believe in Eternal Security, very often, make the following false accusation. They say that those who do believe in this doctrine think that they can live any way they want to & that they can live a life of sin. Nothing could be further from the truth (Psalm 37:23-24), but this false accusation is heard nearly constantly from those who don't believe in this doctrine. Anyone who is truly saved knows that a true Christian can't and won't live this way. People who are truly saved are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and have a changed heart, a changed nature. A real Christian seeks to please God and also has the indwelling Holy Spirit convicting them of any sin they may commit, resulting in a continual general decrease of sin in the life of the believer. This new life is accomplished by God working in the believer (sanctification).
The end result of this accusation is to, again, attack the power of God in a person's life (not to mention the sin of making a false accusation). This appears to demonstrate one of two things (or maybe both):
  1) Little or no concern for committing these sins.
  2) Little or no knowledge of what true salvation does in a person's life.
Either way, this is behavior that should be avoided. It certainly is NOT lovingly correcting someone.
To believe that one can lose salvation, is to live with little or no hope or assurance. Salvation is NOT maintained by our works, but is kept by the power of God (1 Peter 1:3-5). "Revolving Door" salvation is a false doctrine as proven by the verses listed below.
Believing in Eternal Security is NOT arrogance either, but is simply believing in God's promises to His people.

Romans 8:28-39   And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (29) For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. (30) Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. (31) What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (32) He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? (33) Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. (34) Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. (35) Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? (36) As it is written: "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE KILLED ALL DAY LONG; WE ARE ACCOUNTED AS SHEEP FOR THE SLAUGHTER." (37) Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. (38) For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, (39) nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

{In this verse the indication of past salvation is present reality. The converse would clearly be, "For we have NOT become partakers of Christ if we FAIL TO hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end.}

(3) If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? (4) But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared. (5) I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. (6) My soul waits for the Lord More than those who watch for the morning—Yes, more than those who watch for the morning. (7) O Israel, hope in the LORD; For with the LORD there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption. (8) And He shall redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

Matthew 18:12-14   "What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? (13) "And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. (14) "Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

Romans 5:8-10   But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (10) For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Hebrews 6:17-19   Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, (18) that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. (19) This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil,

Hebrews 6:4-6 & Commentary -
{4} For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, {5} And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, {6} If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

In these verses we come across three of the most misused Scriptures by the "you can lose your salvation" camp. When we really look close at these verses we will see that the only group in view here are informed unbelievers. These may be the ones who come to church or hear a gospel broadcast and are not the Elect of God, so they continue in their sins. When an unsaved person sits in church and hears the Gospel, they are in essence partaking of the Holy Spirit, because they are fellowshipping with Christians who are indwelled with the Holy Spirit and hearing a message from a preacher who is indwelled with the Holy Spirit. So in essence they are surrounded with those the Holy Spirit has indwelled and they have heard an illumined message from a Holy Spirit indwelled Pastor. Since they have been partakers by this association, they are also tasting the Word of God because that is the basis of what the Believer teaches and lives by. Also, when they are hearing the Word of God preached, they are, in essence, hearing the language and experiencing the power of the World to come. This is because the Word of God is foreign to this sin cursed world and the pure words of God are something that is going to be an eternal occurrence in heaven, where there is no sin to corrupt or prohibit.

Now the next phrase speaks of a person falling away. Now in the Greek the phrase is and having fallen away. It is not a question of if, but it is a question of that they are already fallen. Those who are fallen and are not of God’s Elect, can never be renewed to repentance, which is a synonym for salvation. The only way a person can repent, is if God has already started salvation in that person’s life. It is always salvation first and then repentance. This why a non-elect person cannot be renewed unto repentance. A Christian who is out of fellowship can be renewed to repentance because the Holy Spirit is dwelling inside the believer with the power to help that believer repent. The unbeliever continues to sin and this is like causing the Lord Jesus Christ to continually go to the cross, in other words, His final sacrifice was not an end because there is no end to sin in the unbeliever’s life. In the believers life, the Lord Jesus Christ completely took away their sins forever. The unbelievers still have their continuum of sin and that is why they cannot be renewed to repentance. Now how do we know that these passages are speaking of unbelievers? Let us look at verse 9.- (Heb 6:9 KJV) "But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak". Verse 9 gives the key to understanding the rest of these verses. It definitely shows two distinct groups in view. It shows the perpetuity of unbelief and its inability to repent without regeneration, and in verse 9, we read that there is better things for the believer and what are they? Things that accompany salvation. The distinction is very clear between the two groups. So never let anyone use this as ammo for their loss of salvation theory on you.
